This article “Seeing Ourselves Through Technology” was very eye-opening, because the author explains how we as humans expressed ourselves years ago in different ways as time went on. She listed three distinct modes of self-representation that all each have a pre-digital history, which we still use to this day in a different and also similar way.
The author tells us how back then people used diaries as a way to contact god, make improvements to oneself, and use as a spiritual writing and religious examination. Now people use a diary for a number of things, such as like keeping secrets or writing what happens a someones day. Blogging can be similar to writing a blog, depending on what you are blogging about but you still write about what you do or you see. I’m guessing blogging can somewhat of consider as the new was to write a diary of some sort.
Towards the end I really enjoyed how this article explained how things were done ages ago. Obviously we all do it now like read and write about ourselves but back then it was very rare and when it was done it helped create some of the things we can do now from non-technology to technology wise. Like they were just learning how we as humans function and did things to make a task possible such as painting a self-portrait, now we can do that using a camera or a mirror. But if you think about it how their creations helped us, our creations from here on can help future generations in many more ways with the but of technology we have and the ability to save files or files to where they’re saved for years.
Although this article was quite long as I began reading it , it became more and more interesting which made me want to keep reading. Even though the author keep jumping from topic to topic I was still able to put it all together and better understand it all. I had a bit hard time writing my summary just because the fact the author gave us so much information, but I wrote what really stood out to me.
