Summary:
Digital self-presentation and self-reflection is cumulative rather than
presented as a definitive whole . A weblog or social media feed consists of a continuously expanded collection of posts, each of which may express a micro-narrative, a comment that expresses an aspect of the writer or an image showing a version of themselves.Artists have anticipated almost every form of self-expression we see in
digital media. Of course we not only have centuries of diaries and selfportraits,
but also have flash narratives that are as short as tweets, photocopied
zines that episodically tell stories from the artist-author’s life and
artists, like Tehching Hsieh, who have taken photos of themselves every
hour for a year. On 11 August 2006, Ahree Lee posted a video of her that contained pictures of her throughout a 3 year period of time. As days passed the video began gaining lots of views. Soon after she began winning award due to the video as well, because it was very diverse compare to other videos posted. Not everyone takes or shares selfies with other , but most of us have accounts on Facebook, twitter or other social media. One of the first things you are asked to do when you create a social media account is to upload/post a profile photo. We often use pictures taken of us by other people for our profile pictures, so they are not always selfies, but a profile picture is a
obviously of us, and our choice of profile photos is clearly a
type of visual self-representation.
Main Idea:
The Main Idea of this chapter is to inform us how selfies identify us as humans and in a personal way. Also the ways we use these selfies in different ways.
Kay Terms:
Selfie: a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and shared via social media.
Self-representation: An individual who represents himself or herself in a dispute
Photobooth: is a vending machine or modern kiosk that contains an automated, usually coin-operated, camera and film processor.
Making Connections:
After reading this chapter there’s a lot of connection here but it most relates to the filter chapter. When we take selfies we do the same process of using filters, when we take a picture we keep taking a picture until we find a certain one that looks good to use. When we use filters we do the same thing we select a filter that we best like, so it all ties in. After reading a couple articles I realized that in a way all technology ties together, like one helps one process look or work way better
